Due to the present circumstances and the fear of being attacked by miscreants, several migrant families are leaving the state and returning to their hometowns for a while after communal violence gripped Haryana’s Nuh on Monday, causing ripple effect in neighboring Gurugram.
Many people from various states have shifted to Gurugram and Nuh to work as laborers, maids, drivers, gardeners, and street hawkers. The conflict occurred during a religious rally in Nuh district which later moved to Gurugram, where businesses and restaurants were set on fire, and a mosque was attacked, killing a cleric. The violence claimed the lives of six people.
Despite the presence of paramilitary troops in the affected regions, some people were seen with their bags packed and strolling on the roads as transportation was not easily accessible due to prohibitory orders issued by authorities.
The migrant workers said they are leaving their houses in Nuh and Gurugram because they are afraid of what transpired during the unrest. They stated that they had no choice but to leave since they no longer felt safe.
A senior police officer revealed that some migrant workers, such as drivers, gardeners, street hawkers, servants, and maids, are returning to their native states out of fear.
However, he said that the situation is normal in Gurugram. “Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) are deployed in the entire district to deal with any type of situation. We appealed to people to avoid rumours and to not fear,” the officer added.
Several people from Manesar, Teekli, Kasan, IMT, and other areas are also considering returning to their hometowns. Police have urged migrant workers not to be afraid and have guaranteed them of their safety and security.
“It has come to our knowledge that some workers are returning to their native places but the situation in Gurugram is normal. Our confidence-building exercise continues with Residents Welfare Associations (RWAs) and slum area residents. They should not fear, and we assure them of their safety and security,” Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav told news agency PTI.
