Heavy Rainfall In Mumbai Orange Alert Issued By IMD, Schools Closed In Thane And Palghar

In the view of incessant rain the Indian meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Pune and Palghar. As the downpour continues orange alert has been issued for Mumbai and Ratnagiri districts.

Authorities have declared a holiday for schools on Friday and Saturday. Maharashtra government has advised people to venture out if necessary more than 100 local trains have been canceled, and the city is facing extensive traffic jams as a result of heavy downpour. The intensity of the rainfall has increased over the past 3 days. Thane collector has announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district.

NDRF teams deployed across six Maharashtra districts amid rainfall alert

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the Maharashtra districts of Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, and Sangli in response to the incessant rain. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team’s 23 members have been told to be ready to deal with severe rainfall as Palghar experiences heavy rain.

Mumbai will continue to see extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas till Saturday. As per the reports of weather department the intensity may reduce by saturday.
