Heavy Rainfall In Mumbai Orange Alert Issued By IMD, Schools Closed In Thane And Palghar

In the view of incessant rain the Indian meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in the districts of Thane, Raigad, Pune and Palghar. As the downpour continues orange alert has been issued for Mumbai and Ratnagiri districts.

Authorities have declared a holiday for schools on Friday and Saturday. Maharashtra government has advised people to venture out if necessary more than 100 local trains have been canceled, and the city is facing extensive traffic jams as a result of heavy downpour. The intensity of the rainfall has increased over the past 3 days. Thane collector has announced a holiday for all schools and colleges in the district.

NDRF teams deployed across six Maharashtra districts amid rainfall alert

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in the Maharashtra districts of Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, and Sangli in response to the incessant rain. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team’s 23 members have been told to be ready to deal with severe rainfall as Palghar experiences heavy rain.

Mumbai will continue to see extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas till Saturday. As per the reports of weather department the intensity may reduce by saturday.

Rivers flowing above the danger line.

The rivers in Ratnagiri’s Vashishti and Jagbudi, as well as Raigad’s Kundalika, Amba, Savitri, and Patalganga, have all gone over the edge. Kolhapur’s Panchganga river is also very close to flooding.

The Palghar area of Maharashtra experienced heavy rains for the third day in a row on Thursday, which resulted in three people’s death. 16 people died in a tragic landslide that occurred yesterday in Maharashtra’s Raigad district after heavy rains fell overnight on the hilly tribal village . A downpour forced the NDRF, which was working on the rescue effort, to end its all-day search and rescue effort for survivors. Up to 21 persons were extricated from the scene. After the landslide that struck Malin village in Ambegaon tehsil of Pune district on July 30.
