Gitanjali Aiyar was one of the earliest and best English news anchors on Doordarshan passed away On Wednesday. The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur expressed his profound grief and shared a post on twitter.

A trailblazer & pioneer, she brought credibility, professionalism, and a distinct voice to every news report, leaving an indelible mark in the journalism and broadcasting industries. My heartfelt condolences go out to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Died of brain haemorrhage
On the national broadcaster Doordarshan, Gitanjali Aiyar was one of the pioneers of English news presentation. She died of brain haemorrhage in Delhi at the age of 72. She worked for more than three decades as a news anchor, veteran journalist Gitanjali Aiyar won a great deal of praise. Her impressive accomplishments include setting various records in the journalism industry and receiving the renowned Best Anchor award four times. Doordarshan’s legendary English news presenter joined the national television network in 1971. She won the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for Outstanding Women in 1989.
Acted in serial ‘khandaan’
In August 2002, she quit Doordarshan and started working in marketing, government relations, and corporate communications. She also acted in the serial “Khandaan” and became a consultant at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
