Cyclone ‘Biparjoy,’ is in the Arabian Sea, is predicted to hit Gujarat on June 15 with winds of up to 150 kph. Section 144 has been implemented in Kutch until Friday, June 16, due to the cyclone through the state.
Cyclone to make landfall in the Kutch
On Thursday afternoon, the cyclone is anticipated to make landfall close to the Jakhau port in the Kutch district. The officials stated that actions are being taken to lessen its effects, including the evacuation of persons and the halting of activities in port areas.
Cyclone with the longest lifespan
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), ‘Biparjoy’ is on its way to surpass all previous cyclone records in the Arabian Sea. Cyclone Biparjoy has had a life span of roughly seven days and over 16 hours since it first formed at 5:30 am on June 6 over the southeast Arabian Sea.
Mumbai has also been prepared
In addition to Gujarat, Mumbai has also been prepared for, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deploying two extra teams there as a precautionary measure. The western and southern cities of Andheri and Kanjurmarg have NDRF teams stationed there.
IMD has issued Orange and Red Alert
According to a PTI report, “People will be evacuated within 10 km from the coast in Kutch-Saurashtra starting Tuesday, June 13. Around 7,500 people residing in low-lying areas near the coast have already been shifted to safer places in the state.” In response to Cyclone Biparjoy, IMD has issued an Orange alert for June 14 and a Red alert for June 15 in all the districts of Gujarat. On Thursday, Biparjoy is forecast to make landfall in the state and then proceed in a north-northeast (NNE) direction.
