The Mumbai Crime Branch on Friday rescued one-month-old baby girl from Andheri and arrested three people, including a couple suspected of selling their kids to raise money for drug purchases. Search to find out their 2-year-old son is still ongoing.
Shakeel Makrani and parents Shabbir and Sania Khan are among the accused who have been arrested. The Crime Branch detained Usha Rathod, an alleged agent who received a commission from the sale.
Daya Nayak, Mumbai Crime Branch said, “A couple addicted to drugs sold their own two children to raise money in Andheri. As soon as the couple’s family learned about the incident, the story came to light. Police have registered a case against the accused couple and two others. The accused couple sold the boy for sixty thousand rupees and the one-month-old girl for fourteen thousand rupees.”
A case has been filed by the police against Shakeel Makrani, Usha Rathore, Shabbir Khan, and his wife Sania. Sania and Shabbir both were drug addicts.
Crime branch further mentioned, “They could not live without drugs, and at the same time the accused woman, Rathod, came into contact with them. The couple sold their son to a person for ₹ 60,000. The identity of the person to whom the children were sold is yet to be ascertained. Also, the couple recently had a daughter. They sold the girl to the accused, Shakeel Makrani, last month for ₹ 14,000.”
The incident shocked accused Shabbir’s sister, Rubina Khan, when she learned about it. She became enraged with her brother and went straight to the D.N. Nagar police station to report the incident. She went to the police station and lodged a complaint against her brother and sister-in-law. D.N. Nagar police registered a case and handed over the investigation to the crime branch.
