CM N Biren Files FIR Against Editors Guild of India For “Creating More Clashes’ In Manipur

The Editors Guild recently asserted that media coverage of the ethnic unrest in Manipur was biased and criticized the state’s political leadership.

On Monday, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh announced that his administration has filed an FIR against the Editors Guild of India’s president and three other members, accusing them of attempting to incite fresh conflicts in the state, which has been racked by ethnic unrest for nearly four months.

The Editors Guild recently asserted that media coverage of the ethnic unrest in Manipur was biased and criticized the state’s political leadership.

“The state government has filed an FIR against the members of the Editors Guild who are trying to create more clashes in the state of Manipur,” Singh said.

Seema Mustafa, president of the Editors Guild, and three other members, Seema Guha, Bharat Bhushan, and Sanjay Kapoor are booked. Last month, Guha, Bhushan, and Kapoor traveled to the state to examine media coverage of the ethnic violence.

The chief minister added that before coming to any decision, they should have consulted with the representatives of “all communities” and “not just some sections.”
