On Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, blamed the opposition parties for the violent incidents during the recently conducted state rural elections. The leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chose not to comment extensively on the CPM and the Congress, citing current discussions over a prospective united Opposition front to oppose the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
In a statement to media on Wednesday, Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP, Congress, and the CPM of being “ram, sham, and bam” responsible for the deaths caused by violence during the state’s rural elections.
“I don’t want to say much about them because we are in talks for a front at the national level. But they should think before they speak,” she said at the press conference.
At least 33 people have died since the elections were declared last month, with the ruling party bearing the brunt of 60% of the casualties.
The chief minister also criticised the BJP’s fact-finding committee and questioned were they were while Manipur and Assam were on fire.
The Bengal chief minister was criticised for unleashing a reign of terror during the rural elections by senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is leading the four-person fact-finding team sent by the BJP. Prasad also questioned why the Congress and the Left’s top leaders remanined silent on the issue.
