The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has debunked an AI-generated deepfake video circulating on social media.
The manipulated clip falsely shows Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan claiming that India surrendered Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh to China due to air force weaknesses.
The video altered footage from Chauhan’s November 28, 2025, address at the Indian Naval Academy’s Passing Out Parade.
In reality, he emphasised professional excellence, multi-domain warfare readiness, and the Navy’s strategic role. The clip distorted his speech to mislead viewers and spread disinformation.
Officials confirmed that the video circulated primarily through Pakistani social media accounts.
Analysts noted that this incident fits a pattern of disinformation campaigns exploiting India-China border disputes.
Authorities also debunked other deepfake videos misrepresenting Chauhan earlier in 2025. The PIB clarified that AI technology played a central role in fabricating the clip.

It manipulated Chauhan’s facial movements and voice to create statements he never made.
PIB Debunks CDS Chauhan Deepfake
Authorities warned that such AI-generated content erodes public trust in official military communications. Security experts highlighted that deepfakes are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
They can spread rapidly and confuse civilians and military observers. “These manipulated videos exploit geopolitical sensitivities to generate fear and mistrust,” an official said.
The Indian Armed Forces reiterated that the country has not surrendered any territory.
They emphasised that the border with China remains secure and under vigilant monitoring.
Chauhan’s actual address focused on strengthening multi-domain capabilities and preparing India’s military for modern strategic challenges.
PIB urged citizens to verify information before sharing content on social media. They recommended consulting official government channels to avoid spreading misleading material.
The fact check underlines the need for critical evaluation of online content. With AI tools capable of creating realistic but false narratives, the military and government agencies face new challenges in maintaining credibility.
