The Aam Aadmi Party said on Saturday that more than one lakh people from Delhi and nearby towns would visit Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to take part in the “Maha rally” organised as a protest against centre ordinance.
Only AAP members to be present in Mega Rally
Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, and Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Chief Minister of Punjab, will be addressing at the rally. Despite Kejriwal’s recent trips to numerous states to rally opposition support against the law, Sunday’s Mega rally would only include AAP members.
‘Maha Rally’ to be held in Ramlila Maidan
On Saturday, a number of party officials were present at Ramlila Maidan to keep an eye on the event’s preparations. A huge stage has been created where the leaders can address the crowd. People can sit under the tent on around 100,000 chairs and listen to the party leaders. “To ensure people do not face any problem, there will be adequate arrangements for water as well as the public conveniences. We are expecting the public from every part of the city and from other towns as well to come and listen to their leaders how the central government has snatched away the power of a democratically elected government through this black ordinance,” the functionary added.
Centre promulgated the ordinance on May 19
On May 19, the Centre issued the ordinance, overriding the Supreme Court’s constitution bench decision, which was given nine days earlier and had given the elected government control over “services matters” including the transfer and posting of IAS and DANICS personnel. However, the Centre established a National Capital Civil Service Authority with the ordinance for the transfers of IAS and DANICS cadre officers.
‘Maha Rally’ to start at 10 am
In order to gather support from people AAP leaders and party went door to door to inform people about the ‘maha rally’.The rally will be attended by all ministers, MLAs, local council members, office holders, and party employees. People would start arriving at the location around 8 or 8.30am, according to a party official, and the programme would start at 10am.
