After learning through an illegal ultrasound that the 30-year-old pregnant woman was carrying a girl child, her in-laws are said to have beaten her to death. The woman was a mother of a visually impaired boy and two girl children. The body was discovered by police hanging in a room.
Kusum Devi, the victim, was six months pregnant. Following the incident at Kewal Bigha village under Manpurpolice station, her husband Uday Chauhan, a farmer by occupation, and his in-laws fled.
The three-year-old youngest and six-year-old oldest cries of victim’s children alerted the villagers regarding the situation. Seven years ago, the deceased and Uday got married.
However, the family member’s claim of ultrasound theory was rejected by the police. SHO Mukesh Kumar of the Manpur police station stated: “Kalwa Devi, the mother who passed away, did not bring up the ultrasound theory in her complaint.
“The deceased was mentally unstable. The investigation will be conducted keeping under consideration the police complaint and the postmortem report. The body was sent to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital for postmortem late evening,” he added.
