Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the country will be free of left-wing extremism in two years on Friday.

The year 2022 saw the least number of violent incidents and fatalities in Naxal-affected areas in the last 40 years, according to Shah, who was chairing a meet to review the security situation in LWE-affected states.

Left Wing Extremism will be totally eliminated from the country in two years, he said. “Naxalism is a curse to humanity, and we are resolved to uproot it in all its forms,” he said.

According to officials, if compared to 2010, the peak year of such incidents, violence has decreased in Naxal-affected states by 77% in 2022.

The chief ministers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Jharkhand were present at the review meeting. Devendra Fadnavis, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, joined state ministers from Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh at the meeting.

According to officials, over the past five years, the country’s LWE security situation has significantly improved. In 2015, the national government passed “National Policy and Action Plan to Address LWE.”

According to the officials, the policy envisions a multifaceted approach that includes security-related measures, development interventions, securing local communities’ rights and entitlements, etc.
