Officially Confirmed! Chinese President Xi Jinping To Skip G20 Summit

According to several experts, Xi Jinping’s decision to forego the G20 Summit will be interpreted as a “signal” that China is reluctant to resolve the border problems with India.

President Xi Jinping has officially announced to skip G20 Summit in New Delhi, The event will be attended by Li Qiang as per India Today on Saturday. According to Mukesh Pardeshi, Special Secretary for the G20 India was waiting for China’s official confirmation of China’s president at the summit.

It’s the first time that the Chinese President will skip G20 summit. The event will be held on September 9 and 10 in Delhi. Russian President Vladimir Putin told PM Modi on the telephone that he won’t be able to attend the summit. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will represent Russia.

During the BRICS summit, Xi Jinping and PM Modi met in South Africa for the last time. Regarding the unresolved issues along (the LAC) line of actual control in area of China-India border areas India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra revealed that PM had discussions with the Chinese counterpart.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported that President Xi “stressed that improving China-India relations serves the common interests of the two countries and peoples” after the brief meeting.

The two leaders had only met twice since the fighting in Galwan in May 2020.

According to several experts, Xi Jinping’s decision to forego the G20 Summit will be interpreted as a “signal” that China is reluctant to resolve the border problems with India.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden had earlier said he “hopes” Xi Jinping attends the G20 Summit. The day before the summit, on September 8, he will have a private meeting with PM Modi.
