  1. Drinking an adequate amount of water aids in flushing bacteria out of your urinary system. Aim for at least eight glasses of water per day to keep your urine diluted and reduce the chances of bacterial growth.
  2. Proper hygiene is crucial in preventing UTIs. Remember to always wipe from front to back after using the restroom to avoid transferring bacteria from the anal area to the urethra. Additionally, wash your genital area with mild soap and water daily to maintain cleanliness.
  3. Holding urine for an extended period can increase the risk of bacterial growth. Make sure to urinate whenever you feel the need to go.
  4. Sexual intercourse can introduce bacteria into the urinary tract, making women more prone to UTIs. Urinating before and after sexual activity helps flush out any potential bacteria that may have entered the urethra.
  5. Choose cotton underwear that allows airflow and keeps the genital area dry. Avoid tight-fitting or synthetic materials that can trap moisture, creating a favourable environment for bacterial growth.

 

The Don’ts:

  1. Avoid using harsh soaps, bubble baths, and feminine hygiene sprays that may disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in the urinary tract.
  2. Douching can disrupt the natural pH balance in the vagina and increase the risk of UTIs. The vagina is self-cleaning, so it is unnecessary and potentially harmful to use douches or other cleaning products.
  3. Some substances, such as caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods, can irritate the bladder and worsen UTI symptoms. Reduce your intake of these substances if you are prone to urinary tract infections.
  4. Don’t Neglect Urinary Symptoms: Pay attention to any changes in your urinary habits or any signs of discomfort. If you experience symptoms like frequent urination, pain or burning during urination, cloudy urine, or strong-smelling urine, consult a healthcare professional for evaluation and appropriate treatment.
