Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ To Hit Gujarat Today, 74,000 Evacuated To Shelter Homes

‘Biparjoy’ is predicted to make landfall, close to Jakhau port, with winds of 125–135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph.

Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ is predicted to make landfall, close to the fishing port of Jakhau, packing winds of 125–135 kmph gusting to 150 kmph in the districts of not only Kutch but also Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, and Morbi between 4 and 8 p.m.

BSF ready with adequate preparations

Border Security Force (BSF) has made adequate preparations to combat any challenges as the cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ approaches Gujarat’s coastal areas. The Inspector General of BSF Gujarat, Ravi Gandhi visited the coastal areas of Bhuj inspected the the preparation to deal with any situation.

Speaking to ANI, BSF IG Ravi Gandhi said, “BSF forces are deployed at the international border. As per the IMD assessment, the concerned area is from Mandvi to Karachi. Our forces are alert with full preparation. We are helping people who are approaching us with any concerns. We are also in contact with other security forces like NDRF”.

Schools will remain closed

The state department of education has ordered the closure of schools in six coastal districts of the state. According to sources, some schools have chosen to remain closed on June 15 while others decided to do so from 15 to 16 June. Some schools after observing the scenario in the city, will make a choice. According to sources, the decision to proclaim holidays or continue classes is up to the school administrations.

74,000 individuals evacuated

Over 74,000 individuals were evacuated to shelter homes as of Wednesday evening. Several government organisations are working day and night to assure “zero casualties.” About 35,000 of them were Kutch shelter home. Alok Kumar Pandey, the State commissioner for relief, reported that 5,000 more people had relocated by late evening.
