"For Me, Credibility Among The Public Is The First Priority," Sachin Pilot

The leader of the dissident Congress party Sachin Pilot declared on Sunday that the confidence of the public is his “greatest asset” and that he will continue to fight for their justice and not relent in his demands.

He has been criticising the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress administration in Rajasthan for what he claims is their lack of response to his allegations of corruption against the previous Vasundhara Raje-led BJP administration.

A compensation for those impacted by cases of government employment exam paper leaks has also been asked by the state’s former deputy chief minister, along with the dissolution and reformation of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission.

Addressing a programme after unveiling a statue of his father and former Union minister Rajesh Pilot on his death anniversary at the Gurjar hostel here, Sachin Pilot said, “For me, credibility among the public is the first priority. People’s trust, promises made to them and credibility are the biggest assets in politics. In the last 20-22 years, since I have been in politics, I have not done any such thing which has led to decrease in trust.”

“In the coming times also, your trust is the biggest asset for me, I will never let it decrease, I promise,” he said and added that no matter what situation, it is his promise to fight for the people and get them justice.

Sachin Pilot also said as Rajasthan Congress chief, he had taken on the BJP when it was in power in the state.

Prior to this presentation honouring his father’s passing anniversary, there was much rumour that he would reveal his plans for his political future. The Congress, however, has dismissed rumours that Sachin Pilot may start a new party and has voiced optimism that a “good solution” will be found to the party’s intramural strife in Rajasthan.

After the Congress took over as the state’s administration in 2018, Gehlot and Sachin Pilot have been in a power struggle. After organising a coup against the Gehlot administration in 2020, Sachin Pilot was demoted from his positions as the party’s state unit president and deputy chief minister.

Gehlot supporters dug in their heels and prevented a legislature party meeting from taking place, which led the high command’s attempt to enact a leadership transition in Rajasthan last year to fail.

In spite of being warned by the party, Sachin Pilot in April carried out a one-day fast in protest of Gehlot’s alleged passivity on corruption under the Raje administration.
