A senior Pakistani lawyer who had lodged a treason case against former Prime Minister Imran Khan was shot dead by unknown armed men on his way to court on Wednesday, according to police.

On Tuesday, a drive-by gunshot on Quetta’s Airport Road killed Supreme Court counsel Abdul Razzaq Shar.

The lawyer was promptly rushed to the Quetta Civil Hospital, however, he died on the route due to his injuries.

Shar was shot 16 times in the horrific incident, according to Surgeon Ayesha Riaz of the Quetta Civil Hospital.

Six unidentified males on three motorbikes attacked Shar when he was on his way to the Supreme Court in his vehicle in connection with a case, according to senior police official Gul Muhammad.

Shar received deadly shots to the chest, neck, and stomach.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) Ataullah Tarar condemned the killing and said that Shar had filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) against opposition leader Khan seeking his trial under treason acts.

Tarar said that the murder was connected to the case.

Abid Kakar, President of the Quetta Bar Association, announced a complete boycott of the Balochistan High Court and lesser courts, as well as a three-day mourning period in memory of Shar.
Shar had recently filed a case in the BHC concerning threats to his life, according to Kakar, and the government should have protected him.
