Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended warm congratulations to India’s Blind Women’s Cricket Team as he welcomed them to his residence following their historic T20 World Cup victory in Sri Lanka.
The players and coaching staff arrived with the World Cup trophy, receiving an enthusiastic reception from the Prime Minister.
During the interaction, PM Modi personally offered sweets to each team member and spent time discussing their journey, achievements, and aspirations. Captain Deepika, along with her teammates, shared insights into their experiences on and off the field.
Commending the team for its extraordinary commitment, PM Modi told the players that sustained effort never goes unrewarded, not only in sport but in life.
He also highlighted how their success had elevated their self-belief, recalling how many of them might once have hesitated to speak to a teacher, yet now confidently conversed with the country’s Prime Minister.
The team presented him with a specially signed cricket bat, symbolising their gratitude and unity.
PM Modi expressed immense pride in their achievements, stating that their journey reflects India’s broader progress and the indomitable spirit of its young citizens. He emphasised that each meeting with such inspiring individuals strengthens his confidence in the nation’s future.
A Lighter Moment and a Historic Win
Adding a touch of humour to the occasion, the Prime Minister compared the team’s emphatic victories to one-sided election contests, jokingly asking why they were so ruthless after defeating some teams within just 10 overs. His remark was met with laughter and enthusiasm from the players.
India created history by clinching the maiden Blind Women’s T20 World Cup title, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in the final. The team remained undefeated throughout the tournament, demonstrating consistency, discipline, and tactical brilliance.
Earlier, PM Modi praised the team on X, describing their success as a landmark moment for Indian sport. He called their unbeaten run a testament to teamwork, perseverance, and remarkable determination, adding that their accomplishment will motivate future generations of athletes.
