The Andaman and Nicobar Islands administration relaunched the Janata Darshan programme on October 30, allowing residents to raise grievances directly with senior officials.
People from several remote areas of the archipelago gathered at Lok Niwas in Sri Vijaya Puram to present their complaints and seek solutions.
Lieutenant Governor Dr Dinesh Sharma presided over the programme. The session marked his first Janata Darshan since he assumed office as Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory.
Officials said the administration had previously used the Janata Darbar platform to hear public grievances nearly nine years ago.
After this lengthy gap, the authorities have revived the initiative under the new name Janata Darshan, providing residents with a direct channel to communicate their concerns.
During the session, Dr Dinesh Sharma interacted directly with residents who had travelled considerable distances to attend the programme. He further listened to their complaints, personal concerns and issues affecting the public.
The administration indicated that the Lieutenant Governor had directed the concerned officials to take appropriate action on relevant matters and work towards resolving the grievances.
The revival of Janata Darshan aims to strengthen direct engagement between residents and the administration.
The programme allows people from distant islands and remote settlements to bring their concerns to the attention of the Union Territory’s highest administrative office.
Residents who attended the session welcomed the initiative, describing it as an important step towards improving public access to officials and addressing local problems.
The return of Janata Darshan after nine years marks a renewed effort to make grievance redressal more accessible and strengthen communication between the administration and the people of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
