Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday launched the BJP’s campaign for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. He expressed confidence that the party would secure a third consecutive term with a thumping majority.
Addressing the newly formed Uttar Pradesh BJP State Executive Committee in Lucknow, Shah urged workers to focus on victory. He invoked Arjuna’s example from the Mahabharata and asked the cadre to keep their eyes on the party’s electoral target. He described the Yogi Adityanath government as firmly established, comparing it to Angad’s foot.
Shah criticised the Samajwadi Party over the October 30, 1990, firing on Ram devotees. He alleged that the then SP government ordered firing on kar sevaks and disposed of their bodies in the Saryu River. He said people would not forgive the party for the incident.
Highlighting the BJP’s growth from two parliamentary seats to the world’s largest political organisation, Shah cited its third consecutive victory at the Centre and NDA governments in 22 states. He accused Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav of blaming electoral institutions instead of improving their political performance.
Shah credited the Yogi government with improving law and order and attracting investment to Uttar Pradesh. He cited Rs 35,000 crore in investments in the state’s Defence Corridor and nearly seven per cent of India’s electronic components exports.
The Minister claimed the BJP government had delivered nearly 200 per cent more development work than the combined SP and BSP regimes.
Shah promised to implement the Uniform Civil Code if the BJP returned to power. He further reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating Naxalism and drugs by December 31, 2029.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and senior BJP leaders attended the meeting.
