Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar bin Ibrahim starts his three-day state visit to India today. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced that Anwar Ibrahim will be in India from August 19 to 21. Malaysian PM India Visit, at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi, marks his first official trip to India as Malaysia’s Prime Minister.
On Tuesday, Anwar Ibrahim will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Forecourt. Following the ceremony, he will visit Raj Ghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi. The same day, he will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi. Modi will also host a luncheon in honor of the Malaysian Prime Minister.
Later in the day, Anwar Ibrahim will meet with President Droupadi Murmu. Additionally, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also have a meeting with the Malaysian leader during his visit.

India and Malaysia share deep historical and socio-cultural ties. In 2015, the relationship was upgraded to an Enhanced Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Malaysia. As both nations approach the second decade of this partnership, Anwar Ibrahim’s visit aims to further strengthen India-Malaysia relations. The focus will be on outlining a multi-sectoral cooperation agenda for future collaboration.
Earlier this year, Malaysia’s Plantations and Commodities Minister Johari Abdul Ghani visited India from July 16-19. During his trip, he met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to explore ways to enhance agricultural cooperation between the two countries.
