Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor Dr Dinesh Sharma began a two-day visit to Swaraj Dweep to review infrastructure, public services, tourism and local grievances.

Dr Sharma received a guard of honour and a traditional welcome upon arriving at the island’s helipad.
During a review meeting, the Lieutenant Governor assessed development projects, waste management, law and order and pending complaints, directing officials to prioritise essential works and resolve grievances within stipulated timelines.
At the Primary Health Centre in Govind Nagar, Dr Sharma directed officials to pursue an upgrade to a Community Health Centre, install an automatic analyser for 40 types of tests, repair the X-ray machine and operationalise the pending generator. He called for specialist recruitment, an operation theatre and 10 additional rooms for healthcare personnel.
At Government Senior Secondary School in Govind Nagar, the Lieutenant Governor directed the construction of four rooms, repairs to teachers’ accommodation and an Anganwadi centre. He further sought a badminton court, a school van and the introduction of Commerce.
Dr Sharma and the Member of Parliament inaugurated three air-conditioned hop-on hop-off buses at the seaport terminal. The service allows tourists to explore island attractions throughout the day for a single fare. He further called for adequate parking and Central Government approval for a proposed new jetty.
The Lieutenant Governor laid the foundation stone for a two-lakh-litre overhead water tank serving Krishna Nagar, Shyam Nagar and Vijay Nagar.
During a Jan Samvad programme in Shyam Nagar, residents raised concerns about a cremation ground. They discussed issues involving water sports operators at Elephant Beach. Residents further raised concerns about road repairs.
Dr Sharma announced Rs 19 crore for roads towards Kalapathar and Radhanagar, the operation of a two-megawatt power plant and Rs 40 lakh to upgrade the Govind Nagar fish market. He laid the foundation stone for three classrooms at Government Secondary School in Krishna Nagar.
The visit, however, concluded with an inspection of Radhanagar Beach, the Andaman Islands’ only Blue Flag-certified beach.
Dr Sharma directed officials to improve parking, public amenities and tourist safety. Senior officials, public representatives and village head Ajit Kumar Rai attended the visit.
