The number of Delhi Metro stations facing entry and exit restrictions ahead of the proposed Opposition protest has been reduced from 57 to 45. The restrictions will remain in force from 9 PM on Friday until 6 PM on Saturday.

Authorities had earlier announced the closure of 57 stations until the situation normalised.

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Centre to ensure that Metro trains and other railway services continued operating under suitable regulations to minimise public inconvenience.

In its revised advisory, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said security agencies would review the situation and issue further updates as required.

The affected stations include Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi Gate, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, Jama Masjid, Jamia Millia Islamia, Azadpur, Shahdara and Rithala.

Other stations facing restrictions include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Lok Kalyan Marg, Barakhamba Road, Jangpura, Ashram, Vishwavidyalaya, Inderlok, Seelampur, Welcome and Maujpur-Babarpur.

The DMRC clarified that commuters could still interchange at all affected stations except New Delhi Metro station, despite the entry and exit restrictions.

The restrictions come ahead of the Opposition’s proposed demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged electoral irregularities. Opposition leaders have demanded Kumar’s resignation.

The revised measures follow the Supreme Court’s direction against a complete stoppage of Metro services. Security agencies will assess prevailing conditions and determine whether further changes are necessary.

The arrangements seek to address security concerns while maintaining public transport services and reducing disruption for commuters during the demonstration.
