Sharing information about his visit on his official handle, Musk posted, “Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister @NarendraModi in India!” Elon Musk had met PM Modi during his visit to America in June last year.
Tesla’s first plant may be announced
According to sources, Musk may announce Tesla’s first plant in the country on his first visit to India. According to media reports, Musk will meet Prime Minister Modi in the national capital on April 22. Apart from announcing Tesla’s arrival in India for the first time, Musk is also expected to reveal automobile-related plans for the country. However, the final agenda of Musk’s visit to India is yet to be confirmed. It was earlier reported that Tesla executives were exploring possible sites in India for a manufacturing plant, which is estimated to require an investment of around US$2 billion. Maharashtra and Gujarat state governments made this offer to Tesla
According to sources, both the state governments of Maharashtra and Gujarat have reportedly offered attractive land to Tesla for this purpose, indicating significant progress in India’s electric mobility scenario. The proposed manufacturing plant, with an estimated investment of US$2 billion to US$3 billion, aims to meet both domestic and international demand for Tesla’s electric vehicles. The move is in line with India’s new EV policy, which aims to promote sustainable transportation and reduce carbon emissions.

Under the government’s EV plan, which aims to establish India as the preferred manufacturing destination for EVs equipped with advanced technology, several key objectives have been outlined. These include attracting investments from global EV manufacturers, promoting the adoption of advanced EV technology among Indian consumers and promoting the country’s Make in India initiative. Apart from this, Tesla’s entry into the Indian market holds great potential for the country’s economy and environment.
