Bollywood Actor Govinda Joins Shinde Faction Shiv Sena, May Contest From Mumbai North-West

Within a week, Govinda and Eknath Shinde met twice. On Wednesday Krishna Hegde, the spokesperson of Shinde camp visited popular actor’s home.

Ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections, veteran Bollywood actor Govinda returned to politics as he joined Shiv Sena, led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. Following his meeting with the Chief Minister earlier in the day, Govinda joined the Shiv Sena at Balasaheb Bhavan.

According to sources, Govinda may run against Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amol Kirtikar from the North-West Mumbai constituency on the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) ticket.

Within a week, Govinda and Eknath Shinde met twice. On Wednesday Krishna Hegde, the spokesperson of Shinde camp visited popular actor’s home.

NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Jayant Patil took a dig at Eknath Shinde after his meeting with Govinda.

Patil said, “He is not a popular actor. Eknath Shinde should have taken an actor who has popularity. He should have taken a good actor. I think Eknath Shinde does not watch movies. If he would be watching movies, he would know who is a better actor.”

Govinda ran as a Congress candidate for the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat in the 2004 Lok Sabha election. He defeated Ram Naik, a top BJP leader. Later on, though, Govinda broke with the Congress party and politics, opting not to run for office in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
