Uma Bharti, the former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, is not included in the BJP’s list of star campaigners for the state’s Lok Sabha elections. But Suresh Pachauri, who just left the Congress, has been selected by the party for the position.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were among the 40 star campaigners on the ruling party’s list for MP, which was made public on Tuesday night.
In the 2023 state elections, Uma Bharti, who had guided the BJP to victory in the 2003 assembly polls, was likewise left off of the BJP’s list of prominent campaigners.
The senior BJP leader had stated earlier this month that she would not run for office for the next two years and would instead focus on revitalizing the Ganga river, but she also made it clear that she would not be giving up on politics.
In addition to MP Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, his counterparts in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam, and Chhattisgarh will support BJP candidates as prominent campaigners in MP.
Pachouri, a former Union minister who defected to the BJP from the Congress earlier this month, is on the list.
Among the 40 prominent individuals selected to support the party’s candidates are BJP chairman JP Nadda, president of the state unit VD Sharma, and union ministers Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Smriti Irani, and Virendra Kumar Khatik.
Madhya Pradesh elections will be done in 4 phases from April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13.
Along with former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and MP cabinet ministers Prahlad Patel, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Aidal Singh Kansana, and Tulsi Silawat, the list also includes deputy chief ministers of MPs Jagdish Devda and Rajendra Shukla, Devendra Fadnavis (Maharashtra) and Keshav Prasad Maurya (Uttar Pradesh).
