Former Infosys Chairman Sudha Murty Takes Oath As Rajya Sabha MP

On March 8, Murty, 73, the author of multiple novels and the former chairman of the Infosys Foundation, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

In the presence of her husband, NR Narayana Murty, Sudha Murty, an engineer turned philanthropist, took an oath as a Rajya Sabha MP on Thursday.

In his room at Parliament House, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar delivered the oath. Piyush Goyal, the leader of the House, was also present on the occasion.

On International Women’s Day last Friday, March 8, Murty, 73, the author of multiple novels, especially for children, and the former chairman of the Infosys Foundation, was nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

In addition, she is well known for her contributions to English and Kannada literature. She has been honored with the Padma Bhushan (2023), the Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar, and the Padma Shri (2006).

As the first female engineer to work for TELCO, Murty is well-known for having given her husband the initial Rs 10,000 from her emergency savings to launch Infosys, which is currently valued at over USD 80 billion.

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is married to her daughter Akshata.
