In response to threat made by Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun to attack Parliament on or before December 13, the center said today that, although it does not wish to give much credence to such threats, the relevant authorities have taken up the matter.
When Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, was questioned regarding Pannun’s recent threat to attack Parliament on or before December 13, the anniversary of the 2001 attack that killed 15 people, including the five attackers he said that he is not the right person to comment on this issue.
He added, “We are caught in a bind here. I do not want to amplify or give too much credence to such extremists, who make threats and get a lot of coverage. On the other hand, we take this seriously and in this particular matter, we know we have taken up the matter with the US and Canadian authorities.”
Following Pannun’s release of the threat message, Delhi Police said that they are on alert. The attack occurs during a Parliament sitting. There has been an increase in security in and around Parliament, according to a senior police officer. He told news agency PTI, “No one will be allowed to disturb law and order.”
“When Parliament is on, we remain alert. We are taking all precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incident,” the officer said. He said that the nation’s capital now has increased security.
