According to Director General of Police Gyanendra Pratap Singh, one person has been arrested for allegedly threatening Assam Minister Atul Bora on social media on Thursday. Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) opened an investigation and filed a case on Tuesday after Bora received a death threat on social media.
“No such threat would be acceptable against elected representatives as it threatens the democratic polity,” the DGP said.
According to Mr. Singh, a 31-year-old boy from Bamun Moran village in Gaurisagar, Sivasagar district, has been investigated for his alleged threats on Facebook against the agriculture minister of state.
In addition, Mr. Bora serves as president of Asom Gana Parishad, a coalition government in the state that is run by the BJP.
A person purporting to be a member of the banned ULFA had earlier threatened to blow up Mr. Bora’s quarters in the Facebook comment section of a local news portal.
