Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg launched Threads, a rival to Twitter as it has a strong resemblance with it, which offers lengthier post compared to Elon Musk’s troubled platform.

Zuckerberg launched the app on Wednesday in 100 countries absolutely free. Threads can be downloaded from google and apple play store. To log in Threads, the user will need an instagram account.

Threads holds a great resemblance with twitter though a few words are changed like tweet is called threads and retweets as reposts. The post on threads can be of 500 characters compared to twitter which only offers a post 280 characters long. Thread also gives a feature of sharing videos up to 5 minutes in length.

According to Zuckerberg in the first two hours of launch almost two million people registered on Threads including Richard Branson whose first post said, “Thready, steady, go..”

Threads is “new, separate space for real-time updates and public conversations”, aiming to “take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas” as per Meta. It further added, “We are working toward making Threads compatible with the open, interoperable social networks that we believe can shape the future of the internet.”
