Afghan Ambassador Caught Smuggling At Indian Airport, Hid Gold Worth 18 Crores

Afghan diplomat (Consul General of Afghanistan) Zakia Wardak has been arrested by Indian agency DRI on suspicion of gold smuggling.

Ever since the return of Taliban rule to neighboring country Afghanistan, there has been no warmth between its bilateral relations with India. Human rights are being violated on a large scale in Afghanistan. There is an atmosphere of anarchy, and it has become difficult for non-Muslims to live. Cases ranging from illegal cultivation of opium to smuggling are increasing rapidly there. News has come that a senior Afghan diplomat was involved in a crime inside India.

According to PTI report, Afghan diplomat (Consul General of Afghanistan) Zakia Wardak has been arrested by Indian agency DRI on suspicion of gold smuggling. At that time, Zakia Wardak was at an airport when she was found hiding 25 kg of gold worth more than Rs 18 crore. Strict action has been taken against her. Officials say that Zakia Wardak has left her responsibility at the Afghan Consulate and now she will have to face further action.

25KG gold brought from Dubai to Mumbai

The English newspaper ‘Times of India’ has claimed in its report that on April 25, Zakia Wardak brought 25 kg of gold from Dubai to Mumbai, she was planning to smuggle the gold. She hid the gold bars in her clothes. A case was registered against Wardak by DRI and the gold was confiscated.

Apart from Zakia Wardak, some other Afghan officials are also living in India. However, complaints from other officers were not received. A worrying case has come to light of senior Afghan diplomat Zakia Wardak, who was caught by DRI at the airport while hiding 25 kg of gold worth more than Rs 18 crores since then she has resigned from her role at the Embassy of Afghanistan in New Delhi and the Afghan Consulate in Mumbai.
