Dr Litter-ature: Vermont State University Gives Beloved Campus Cat Honorary Degree

The Castleton campus of Vermont State University has bestowed an honorary degree to Max who is a tabby cat that has become a campus staple and lives close to the main entrance of the university. He is well-known for his affection, attention and his pleasant nature.

Max has been delighting students and staff by meandering through the university’s hallways for a number of years. As a thank you for Max’s services to the campus community, the institution named him an honorary “Doctor of Litter-ature.”

According to Ashley Dow, Max’s owner, the inquisitive cat began coming onto campus years ago in an attempt to socialize with the students. We can pick him up, play with him, and even take him on college tours; he seems to know when and where to meet the prospective students.

The New York Post claims that everyone is familiar with Max, who enjoys attention and will even accept being lifted up and played with while taking photographs. The gregarious being also enjoys taking part in campus tours, which aim to introduce potential students to school and rush across street to meet spot on time.

“With a resounding purr of approval from the faculty, the Board of Trustees of the Vermont State Colleges has bestowed upon Max Dow the prestigious title of Doctor of Litter-ature, complete with all the catnip perks, scratching post privileges, and litter box responsibilities that come with it. Congratulations, Dr Max Dow,” the university’s alumni wrote in a social media post.

Max will not be allowed to cross the stage at graduation, according to university officials, but he will soon receive his honorary degree.
