Banks To Remain Closed For 16 Days Across Various States

Bank Holidays in September 2023: There will be 16 bank holidays in September 2023, including both national and local holidays. Banks will be closed in some states on Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Maharaja Hari Singh’s birth anniversary, and Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi. All Sundays as well as the second and fourth Saturdays are also considered holidays.

The schedule of bank holidays for the entire year is set by the RBI, which oversees the banking industry in India. In India, in addition to the standard bank holidays, there are also additional holidays for festivals and other special occasions that are permitted by various states. Both public and private sector banks are prohibited from operating on Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month by RBI regulations.

Banks will remain closed for so many days in the month of September

3 September 2023 – Banks will remain closed across the country on Sunday.
6 September 2023- Banks will remain closed in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Patna due to Shri Krishna Janmashtami.
7 September 2023- Due to Shri Krishna Janmashtami, there will be bank holiday in Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Telangana, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla and Srinagar.
9 September 2023- Banks will remain closed across the country due to the second Saturday.
10 September 2023- Due to Sunday, there will be a holiday in banks across the country.
17 September 2023- Banks will remain closed across the country due to Sunday.
September 18, 2023 – Banks will remain closed in Bengaluru, Telangana on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi.
September 19, 2023- Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
20 September 2023- Banks will remain closed in Kochi and Bhubaneswar on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and Nuakhai.
September 22, 2023- Banks will remain closed in Kochi, Panaji and Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day.
23 September 2023- Banks will remain closed across the country due to the fourth Saturday.
24 September 2023- Banks will remain closed due to Sunday.
25 September 2023- Due to the birth anniversary of Shrimant Sankardev, there will be a holiday in banks in Guwahati.
September 27, 2023- Banks will remain closed in Jammu, Kochi, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram on the occasion of Milad-e-Sharif.
28 September 2023- Banks will remain closed in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Dehradun, Telangana, Imphal, Kanpur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi due to Eid-e-Milad.
29 September 2023- Banks will remain closed in Gangtok, Jammu and Srinagar on the occasion of Eid-e-Milad un Nabi.

The RBI divides holidays into three groups: those observed in accordance with the Negotiable Instruments Act, those associated with real-time gross settlement, and those associated with banks closing their accounts. Apart from weekends, September has 11 bank holidays, according to the Reserve Bank’s calendar.
