Islamabad remains tense as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest enters its second day. Hundreds of supporters gather at D-Chowk, insisting they will not disperse until receiving further instructions from party leader Imran Khan. Confusion surrounds Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s whereabouts, raising concerns among PTI members.
Local media report Gandapur left party workers in Islamabad to move to the KP House, prompting criticism from the PTI political committee. They warned of “serious repercussions” if Gandapur faces arrest.
Leadership Contingencies in Place
PTI has prepared for leadership changes in case of arrests. Azam Swati would lead protests if Gandapur is detained, with a new leader designated if Swati is also arrested. Shaukat Yousafzai confirmed Gandapur remains at the KP House, where he presented demands, including the release of Imran Khan.
Clashes erupted between law enforcement and PTI supporters across the twin cities. Government ministers exchanged fiery statements with PTI leaders, escalating tensions. Roads remain blocked, and cellular services are suspended, causing significant disruption for citizens.
Gandapur’s Status Under Scrutiny
KP government spokesperson Barrister Mohammad Saif initially claimed Gandapur’s arrest but later clarified he had not been formally detained. Saif emphasized that Gandapur remains on bail until October 25, warning that any arrest would undermine the KP people’s mandate.
PTI chairman Barrister Gohar Khan stated the protest would continue due to the government’s crackdown, leaving the KP House without commenting on Gandapur’s situation.
