Bengal Fake Doctor Arrested At Delhi Airport In Child Death Case

West Bengal Police arrested Sheikh Saidul Haque at Delhi airport in connection with the death of a four-year-old child following an alleged botched surgery in East Burdwan district.

Police said Haque allegedly posed as a doctor and performed surgery on the child at a hospital in the Nawabhat area a few days ago.

The child died soon after the procedure, following which Haque reportedly went absconding.

The child’s family filed a complaint, prompting police to launch an investigation and issue a lookout notice against Haque. Police said he had travelled to Dubai after the child’s death and remained there during the investigation.

Delhi Police arrested Haque at the airport on Tuesday night after he returned to the national capital.

Following questioning and completion of legal formalities, Burdwan Police brought him to Kolkata by flight. Police reached Kolkata airport around 1.30 am on Wednesday and took him to Burdwan for further questioning.

The investigation has also raised questions about Haque’s medical qualifications. Police said they were examining allegations against him and gathering further details as part of the probe.

A police officer said Haque left the country while the investigation was underway and was arrested at Delhi airport based on the lookout notice issued against him.

The Association of Private Hospitals and Nursing Homes thanked the police for arresting the accused.

An association member said the group hoped the arrest would lead to action against other individuals allegedly involved in similar cases.

The arrest comes as police continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the child’s death and Haque’s alleged medical credentials.

Authorities are also examining other complaints reportedly linked to the accused.
