Ajit Agarkar The New Chairman Of Team India's Senior Selection Committee
Ajit Agarkar, a former all-rounder for India, was named chief selector of the senior men’s selection committee on Tuesday.
“The three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape, recommended his name after the interviews for the said position,” stated a BCCI media release.
Based on his seniority, the committee also nominated Agarkar for the chairmanship (total number of Test matches).
Agarkar played 110 first-class, 270 List A, and 62 T20 matches in addition to 26 Tests, 191 ODIs, and four T20Is for his country.
Salil Ankola will be one of the two selectors in the West Zone as a result of Agarkar’s appointment. Subroto Banerjee from the Central Zone, S Sharath from the South, and SS Das from the East round up the group.
Agarkar was a member of the Indian team that won the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. His 21-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in 2000 still stands as the fastest half-century by an Indian hitter in an ODI.
Agarkar, who scored a Test century at Lord’s, contributed significantly to India’s Test triumph in Australia in 2004 by taking six wickets in the Adelaide match.
For almost ten years, he also held the record for the quickest 50 ODI wickets, reaching the mark in just 23 games.
Following his playing career, he was hired as the senior Mumbai team’s head selector and began working with the Delhi Capitals as a coach.
