Mother Teresa’s 113th Birth Anniversary, Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Her

Mother Teresa, also known as Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, was born on August 26, 1910. Her commitment of supporting people is well known and respected across the world. Mother Teresa dedicated her entire life in helping the most vulnerable people in India. She became a nun at the age of 18. She has always made it her mission to help those who are most in need. She received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her outstanding contributions to world peace.

Mother Teresa’s life purpose

In 1929, Mother Teresa traveled from Ireland to teach at a girls’ school in India. Mother Teresa’s life underwent an irreversible change in 1946. She received what she described as “a call within a call” on the train from Calcutta to Darjeeling. She found her life’s purpose: helping the underprivileged people of Calcutta.

She consequently rose to become one of history’s best missionaries. Mother Teresa established the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order, in 1950. Members of the congregation consent to taking chastity, poverty, and obedience vows. More than 5,000 nuns and volunteers are currently working for the Missionaries of Charity in 133 different countries.

Along with soup kitchens, schools for abandoned children, mobile clinics, and community services, the congregation offers residences for people with HIV/AIDS, leprosy, and tuberculosis.

Mother Teresa received a state funeral in India after passing away on September 5, 1997, at the age of 87. Even though she held some controversial views with which some people disagreed, Mother Teresa is remembered as a truly selfless person who wished to assist those who were less fortunate than herself. Mother Teresa was declared a saint a few years later, in 2016, by Pope Francis.
