UP: “Unafraid To Drive At Night Under Yogi Government”, Says Female E-Rikshaw Driver

Najma moves confidently through the city’s streets while wearing a burqa because she believes in her government’s law and order.

Najma, a driver from the bustling city of UP Moradabad drives her e-rickshaw through the lanes not only to make a living but also with a dream in her heart: to perform the Hajj and Umrah. Her story of perseverance and determination is inspiring.

The journey Najma took into the world of e-rickshaw driving is proof of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of difficulty. Najma was in a precarious financial situation after losing her husband in 2010 as she had to manage the household expenses because her husband had been the main provider. Her son worked as a welder and so the income was limited.

Najma has strong faith in the Uttar Pradesh police and the Yogi government’s dedication to ensuring safety, she is unafraid of driving at night. Najma moves confidently through the city’s streets while wearing a burqa because she believes in her government’s law and order.

When asked about her goals, Najma’s eyes sparkle with optimism. She longs to make the Hajj and Umrah, pilgrimages of spiritual significance for Muslims. As these pilgrimages need good funds she started driving e-rickshaws because the money she made from sewing wasn’t enough to cover these costs.

Najma has been driving e-rickshaw for the past four months and earning money. She makes ends meet by combining her earnings with those of her son, who earns about Rs 400 per day. She grows her savings account a little bit every day, getting one step closer to her goal.
