Both of the students were then taken into custody from their separate houses after police used a CCTV camera placed in the area to identify and trace the vehicle involved in the collision.

In an SUV 700, the two were competing to see who could drive faster. They both drove the SUV at over 100 km/h turn by turn. According to a senior police officer, Sarthak lost control of the SUV and struck the 10-year-old child when he took over and drove it at a speed of over 120 km/h.

Both claimed to have learning licenses when asked to show them, but they were unable to do so. Under questioning, the two acknowledged that they knew the youngster would not survive the impact, which is why they left the scene.
