Police said in an encounter a man accused of attacking a female constable on a train last month was killed during a raid in Uttar Pradesh on Friday In the gunfight, two of his assistants were hurt and taken into custody.
The constable was discovered bleeding profusely on the Saryu Express in the vicinity of Ayodhya, with head and face injuries. She is currently receiving care at a hospital in Lucknow.
Anees Khan, the main suspect in the attack, was hurt during the encounter and later passed away, according to the police. His assistants, Azad and Vishambhar Dayal, were also detained.
“We identified and traced the accused based on technical and manual inputs, and a photo that was identified by the victim. Based on this, Ayodhya Police and a special task force conducted a raid on them,” said Raj Karan Nayyar, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ayodhya.
He claimed that during the raid, the criminals fired at them, causing the police to retaliate. In the gunfight, two of them were hurt and taken into custody, but the third managed to get away. According to Mr. Nayyar, teams were deployed in order to find him.
When the criminal was seen again, the police asked him to turn himself in, but he chose to shoot at them instead, inflicting injuries during retaliation. Later, while receiving treatment, he passed away.
