J-K administration conducts trial run to check security preparedness for Amarnath Yatra
Two days before the annual Amarnath Yatra began, a test drive from Jammu to Banihal was undertaken on Wednesday in order to thoroughly assess the security and other preparations to guarantee a secure trip for the devotees.
Senior officers and Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh led a security vehicle convoy as they conducted the trial run along the Jammu-Srinagar national route.
The district administrations of Jammu, Udhampur, and Ramban inspected all the preparations made for the pilgrimage by senior civil and police personnel in charge of the Jammu division.
“The trial run was conducted by the security establishment from Jammu to Banihal on the highway for a thorough inspection of security and other arrangements”, an officer said.
The 62-day pilgrimage will begin on July 1 and end on August 31 at the cave shrine in the south Kashmir Mountains. Two routes will be used by pilgrims to begin the yatra: the traditional 48-kilometer Nunwan path in Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, and the shorter 14-kilometer Baltal route in Ganderbal, in central Kashmir.
On June 30, the first group of pilgrims will leave the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu. Before arriving at their designated base camps in Pahalgam and Baltal, they will drive along the national route between Jammu and Srinagar.
In order to provide the pilgrims with the greatest convenience possible, officials stated, the administration has prepared that transit camps will house the believers in the event that bad weather forces the closure of the roadway.
