Tamil Nadu Police Arrests Fortune Teller For Caging Birds, Used Them To Predict Election Results

The fortune teller and his brother were detained by the forest police for imprisoning the parrots after the video went viral. Afterwards, both were set free with a warning.

A fortune teller in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, was detained for possessing parrots as pets. The District Forest Police took action in response to a video that went viral online showing the fortune teller, named as Selvaraj, prophesying Thangar Bachan, the candidate for the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) Cuddalore constituency, winning the election.

Along with the fortune teller, his brother was also taken into custody. In footage, Bachan could be seen asking Selvaraj to pick his winner.

Following the fortune teller’s instructions, the parrot came out from its cage and began selecting cards featuring the picture of the god the politician had been worshiping just hours earlier.

The clairvoyant then predicted that Bachan would win the next round of voting.

Satisfied with the forecast, the PMK contender proceeded to offer a banana to the parrot.

Schedule 4 of the Wildlife Protection Act (1972) states that it is unlawful to cage birds because they fall within the wild animal category and are therefore protected by the act.
