VK Sasikala, a confidante of Tamil Nadu former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa failed to appear in court in a case hearing regarding alleged “VIP treatment” given to her while she was locked up in prison, a non bailable warrant(NBW) is issued against her by Lokayukta special court.
In 2017, she was convicted in disproportionate asset case and was incarcerated at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in Bengaluru. Apart from VK Sasikala her sister-in-law, Ilavarasi, another accused in the case was also issued an NBW.
Both the accused were convicted in disproportionate assets case by a special court against Jayalalithaa and were lodged in jail for four years. During this time they were accused of getting special privileges which isn’t for convicts by bribing the police officials.
The case against three prison officers Krishna Kumar, the then Chief Jail Superintendent; Dr Anitha, then Assistant Superintendent of Prisons; and Gajaraja Makanur, then police sub-inspector were dismissed by the High Court of Karnataka in May this year who were accused of providing the facilities to Sasikala at the time of imprisonment in 2017.
Sasikala also appealed in court for quashing the case against her. However, the court did not accept her appeal and the case against her was not put on stay. Repeatedly, Sasikala has failed to appear in court hearings, keeping this in view she was issued NBW by the court.
