Today in India, law institutions should come forward to help the citizens who cannot afford to pay for legal advice and legal aid, because the right to justice and equality is a fundamental right for all citizens.
These views were expressed by BJP MLA from Sarojini Nagar and Supreme Court advocate Dr. Rajeshwar Singh. The occasion was the inauguration of the workshop on ‘Empowering Communities: Strategies for Effective Delivery of Free Legal Aid’ organized by Pro Bono Club at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia National Law University on Saturday.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, who was the chief guest at the event, described the launch of the informative workshop as a matter of good fortune and said that together, we have strengthened access to justice through free legal aid, recognizing the intrinsic value and dignity of every individual. Dr. Singh said that in different countries of the world, it has been made mandatory for lawyers to provide a certain number of hours of pro bono or pro bono legal assistance every year. In South Korea, it is mandatory for all lawyers to work for a minimum of 30 hours pro bono every year, while the American Bar The association recommends a minimum of 50 hours of pro bono service annually.

Elaborating on the subject of free legal aid, Sarojininagar MLA said that under Article 39A (42nd Amendment) of the Indian Constitution, a provision has been made to ensure free legal aid to all citizens. Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution also underline legal aid, famous cases like Sheela Barse vs. Government of Maharashtra demonstrate the importance of free legal aid.
Dr. Singh further added that social justice is of utmost importance, there is a feeling of special self-satisfaction in providing free legal aid in the national interest and to the economically and socially backward classes, yet last year about 10 lakh people were helped by various legal societies. Only free legal aid was provided.
Dr. Rajeshwar Singh, while advocating making legal education compulsory in the school curriculum, said that children should be aware of their legal rights and they should have detailed knowledge about laws like Motor Vehicle Act even before reaching degree college. Apart from writing a letter to the Prime Minister and the Education Minister for this, I have also filed a PIL in the Supreme Court.
While highlighting the importance of digital education, Sarojini Nagar MLA said that I have established a digital library by providing 250 computers in 25 colleges of my assembly, the students of Law University have made digital mediums their weapon to provide legal discourse to the people. Connect with people through the website, meet people on weekends. For this, the MLA also assured to provide all possible assistance.

BJP’s foundation day celebrated with great pomp
The foundation day of Bharatiya Janata Party was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the office of Sarojini Nagar BJP MLA Dr. Rajeshwar Singh at Parag Chauraha Ashiana.
