Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), declared that his organisation would run in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections this year.

Akhilesh predicted that his party will perform better than it did in the 2003 Assembly elections, which produced seven SP MLAs.

The SP leader made the decision to run in the assembly elections this time at a meeting with his party’s Madhya Pradesh activists on Monday while ramping up state elections preparations.

Akhilesh predicted before, while taking part in the opposition conference in Bengaluru, that the BJP will face defeat in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“…2/3rd of the population is going to defeat BJP. I hope that the people of the country will give BJP a massive defeat…I am receiving inputs from all corners of the country that the BJP will be wiped out…,” SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said ahead of the Opposition meeting.

In Madhya Pradesh this year, the Congress is the main opponent of the BJP, which is in power. In the 2018 elections in Madhya Pradesh, the Congress won.

To overthrow the Kamal Nath led government and to form Shivraj Singh Chouhan-BJP led Government, Jyotiraditya Scindia, one of the tallest politicians in the state, orchestrated a coup and joined the BJP party.

Along with four other state assembly elections in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Meghalaya, the 2017 Madhya Pradesh elections will feature a contentious race between the Congress and the governing BJP. Elections for the state assembly are anticipated to set the tone for the 2024 general elections.
