“Return Back Indira Gandhi’s Residence To Indian Government”: BJP Leader Giriraj Singh On ‘Modi Multiplex’ Controversy

Giriraj Singh argued that space has now been arranged for all the former Prime Ministers in the PM Museum.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh called the new Parliament a Modi multiplex. Since then, BJP and Congress have been giving their reactions on this matter. The Congress leader said that when the government changes in 2024, the new building of Parliament House will be used in a better way.

After this, many senior party leaders including BJP President JP Nadda have attacked Congress. BJP Union Minister Giriraj Singh also got angry, attacking the Congress leader and demanding that 1 Safdarjung Road Complex (which used to be the residence of former PM Indira Gandhi and which was converted into her memorial/museum after her assassination) ) should be immediately returned to the Government of India.

However, Giriraj Singh argued that space has now been arranged for all the former Prime Ministers in the PM Museum.

Hitting back at Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on social media platform X, Union Minister Giriraj Singh said, “I demand that the #DynasticDens all over India need to be assessed and rationalised. For starters, the 1, Safdarjung Road complex be immediately transferred back to the Government of India considering all Prime Ministers have their space at the PM Museum now.”

Jairam Ramesh said that the new Parliament building inaugurated with such grandiose publicity clearly shows the objectives of the Prime Minister. It should be called Modi Multiplex or Modi Marriott. Within four days, I observed that discussion inside both the Houses and in the lobby had ended. If architecture could destroy democracy, then the PM has succeeded in doing so without rewriting the Constitution.

He further said that now the joy of visiting Parliament has disappeared. I was eager to visit the old building. The new complex feels painful and hurting. I am sure many of my colleagues across the party feel the same way. Perhaps after the change of government in 2024, the new Parliament building will be put to better use.
