In Alwar, Rajasthan, eight years old Dalit boy was physically beaten for filling a bucket from a hand pump that belonged to someone in a higher caste. Based on a complaint from the boy’s family, the police have opened a case and begun an investigation.
The incident happened on Saturday in the village of Mangleshpur in Alwar. The deceased, Chirag, a fourth-class student, went to get water from the hand pump that was built at his school.
Pannalal, the boy’s father, filed a complaint alleging that his kid inadvertently touched Rattiram Thakur’s bucket while filling it with water.
Infuriated by this, Thakur trashed the kid and asked him how he was able to touch the pail.
After the boy’s relatives visited Thakur, he threatened him to kill them since they belonged to a lower caste and they went to his house to discuss the matter.
After the victim’s family discussed it with child’s school principal he told the family members that it was a police problem and sent them to the station.
The family members complained to the Ramgarh police station, whereupon a case was opened and an inquiry was started into the issue. A team was deployed to find the accused.
An such event occurred in a Jalore district school last year when a Dalit student was physically attacked for touching a pot.
