On July 20, 2018, the Telugu Desam Party, a former ally of the BJP, filed a notice against the alleged non-allocation of funds to Andhra Pradesh. As a result, PM Modi had to face his first no-confidence motion in Parliament.

The motion was defeated by the Modi administration by 199 votes after a 12-hour debate. The opposition party received just 126 votes in support of the motion while NDA got 325 votes.

Even though the Modi government is expected to face its second no-trust motion in 2023, the odds are overwhelmingly in its favor.

After being disqualified from parliament for four months, Rahul Gandhi returned as an MP on Monday, following Supreme Court’s relief in criminal defamation case involving his ‘Modi surname’ remark, his disqualification from Lok Sabha was revoked. The opposition wanted the Prime Minister to address the Manipur issue in Parliament, thus on July 26 Gaurav Gogoi admitted the no-confidence motion put forth by the Congress.
