Bhagwant Mann, the chief minister of Punjab, declared on Thursday that no additional water, not even a single drop, would be given to any other state.
He also disclosed that Gurminder Singh’s name had been approved by the state cabinet for the advocate general (AG) position.
After presiding over an urgent cabinet meeting at his home, Mann made this statement.
The Sutlej-Yamuna-Link (SYL) canal issue was discussed by the council of ministers without releasing the official agenda of the meeting.
“Also, the SYL issue was discussed at the meeting … not even a single drop of additional water will be shared with any other state at any cost … convening the monsoon session (of the state Assembly) soon was also discussed … approval to several pro-people decisions was given,” the chief minister wrote on X.
The Supreme Court had ordered the Centre to survey the area of land in Punjab that had been designated for the construction of a section of the SYL canal the day before the meeting.
On Wednesday, every political party in Punjab argued that the state lacked any additional water that it could give to another state.
Political parties in Haryana, however, welcomed the Supreme Court’s order, claiming that the state’s residents had been waiting for SYL water for a long time.
