Farmers protested to seek compensation for damage and destruction caused by floods at Sector 17 parade ground Chandigarh leading to tightening of security at inter-state borders of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Tuesday.
Security Personnel have been deployed at all the entry and exit points in Chandigarh to stop farmers from entering into city. A terrific incident took place on Monday, a farmer died in Sangrur district as a tractor was run over him. 5 policemen were also injured in a clash between cops and farmers over arrest of farm leaders.
As per PTI, SSP Surendra Lamba told that skirmish occurred after farmers’ union demand of blocking Sangrur-Barnala national highway and the Badbar toll plaza was refused by the police.
For the damage caused by floods in Punjab and entire North India, farmers are demanding a compensation of Rs 50,000 crore from Central Government. Adding up to this, they even demanded Rs 5 lakh for damaged house and compensation of Rs 10 lakh for family members of person who died in flood and a Rs 50,000 per acre compensation for crop loss.
To seek compensation for destruction caused by floods 16 farm bodies including Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, Bharti Kisan Union (Karanti kari), BKU (Ekta Azaad), Aazaad Kisan Committee, Doaba, BKU (Behramke) and the Bhoomi Bachao Mohim have decided to protest in Chandigarh.
