Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mahatma Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today. PM also inaugurated the master plan of Gandhi Ashram Memorial. Along with this, PM Modi also inaugurated the restoration of Kocharab Ashram in Mahatma Gandhi Ashram. Telling about the event, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said, “For the last several years, some work was going on in the ashram and the families of the ashram residents lived here. Without their support, this redevelopment project would not have been possible. There was no need for land acquisition law in this entire process. “Through mutual cooperation, trust and dialogue we found a solution.”
Old and new pictures of the ashram have been shared with the public. According to the Gujarat government, Rs 1200 crore will be spent in this masterplan to beautify the ashram. By increasing the scope of the ashram from five acres, it will now be expanded to 55 acres, while the existing 36 buildings will also be renovated.
PM Modi posted a video on Instagram and wrote, “The renovation of Sabarmati Ashram manifests our commitment towards preserving and celebrating our rich history. The scale of the effort will leave you spellbound.” PM Modi also planted a sapling in Mahatma Gandhi Ashram.
In his address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Bapu’s Sabarmati Ashram has always been a center of wonderful energy. Whenever one gets the opportunity to come here, we can clearly feel Bapu’s inspiration within us. The ideals of truth and non-violence, the resolve of dedication towards the country, the spirit of service to God in the service of the poor and the deprived – Sabarmati Ashram keeps these values of Bapu alive even today.”
Referring to today’s date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “March 12 is the historical date when Bapu changed the direction of the freedom struggle and the Dandi March is recorded in golden letters in history. This date is witness to the beginning of such a historic occasion in independent India. “On March 12, 2022, the country started the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence from this ashram.”
